Amanda Furlong’s work challenged traditional representations of the naked form, with a signature style that captured the essence and uniqueness of each individual.
Whether gracefully tapering, curving or lyrical, her lines were clean, strong and true. Bold, pure colour complemented these lines, impacting the senses with its intensity.
Often, the contour line was exaggerated to enhance the appeal of negative spaces. Sinewy, delicate and sharply defined outlines translated the soft, rounded areas of the body. There was no fuss or ambiguity.
With a Bachelor of Education majoring in Visual Arts (painting and printmaking), her ability to place a mark in one flowing line evolved from many years of drawing and refining her distinctive style.
Amanda passed away in 2014 after bravely battling lung cancer. She left behind a legacy of artistic innovation and unique expression, touching the lives of many through her art.
Amanda’s work was contemporary and minimalist in style. Her large, bright, bold paintings and stylised charcoal drawings offered an escape from the fuss of everyday life.
